Special and Unusual Circumstances
Special circumstances are changes in a student’s or family’s financial situation that might change the standard information provided on the FAFSA. The FAFSA uses the prior-prior tax year data to determine eligibility, however, Financial Aid Administrators have the ability to edit FAFSA data if the standard information provided on the FAFSA does not reflect the student’s or family’s current financial situation. Some examples of Special Circumstances include, but are not limited to:
Students who feel that they have a special circumstance should submit a Special Circumstances form and any relevant documentation to the Financial Aid Office. Students who have questions about special circumstances should email finaid@endicott.edu.
Unusual Circumstances refer to the conditions that justify an aid administrator making an adjustment to a student’s dependency status based on a unique situation. This is also known as a dependency override. Dependent students who are not able to contact their parents, are estranged from parents, or for whom contact with parents would create a dangerous situation for the student may be eligible for a dependency override. Examples of unusual circumstances include, but are not limited to:
Dependent students who feel that they have unusual circumstances should reach out to the Financial Aid Office at finaid@endicott.edu to discuss their situation with a financial aid counselor.
